It has been published several times, that chest (and rib) X-ray shows insufficient sensitivity in detecting of rib fractures. Not diagnosing the rib fracture is not such a big problem since the therapeutic approach does not change. However, in certain situations, when we want to avoid X-rays, ultrasound may help to detect these fractures and mainly their complications:
